Explorer Scouts are young people aged between 14 and 18 years. They make up the fourth section of the scouting family. The Explorer Scout Units are the responsibility of the Bridgend District.

The Balanced Programme is used in the Explorer Scout Unit and provides a seamless progression of training, activities and awards that covers everything that young people do in Scouting. The Programme is based around helping young people to grow in a number of personal development areas to ensure that they really are learning by doing. It contains 8 programme zones:

Outdoors; Skills; Physical Recreation; Community Service
Environment; International; Relationships; Values
